Hope for the Future
HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, May 18th

Wednesday, May 18th is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. Wear your red AIDS ribbon upside down to form a "V" for vaccines, as a sign that you share the hope for the future for a vaccine to prevent HIV infection.

Thousands of researchers and volunteers are working together to turn this hope into a reality for everyone. May 18 is the day to thank them - and everyone who shares this hope.

Experts believe that vaccines to prevent HIV infection are the best hope to stop HIV from spreading. While we don't have a vaccine yet, several promising HIV vaccines are in the testing phase - and many more are being researched. Progress is being made everyday.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has also developed an HIV Vaccine Awareness Day Communications Toolkit that can be used for a variety of awareness building activities.
